Set in Sydney Cove, 1788, Bruce, tells the tale of convict life through the dark and dry comedic lens of the protagonist, Bruce. But like all great stories, Bruce needed to engage its audience from the get-go, starting with a visually captivating pitch to prospective investors — designed by us.
The Creators of Wilfred approached The Duck’s Guts to develop the pitch treatment for Bruce. Conceived as a television series, the future of this historical comedy was yet to be determined. With a production value as high as Bruce however, corporate funding was needed to get the ball rolling — and that in turn required us to create something that left little to the imagination.
Over a series of months a treatment was designed to bring the concept and characters to life with visuals as gritty as the storyline. The raw and dirty graphic elements and illustrations transported the mind from the pitch to the shores of Sydney Cove, and the filthiness of life for these convicted new Australians. Hues of blood and mud reinforced the tone of the colonial setting. Historical illustrations captured the personalities of key characters. We later applied these features across the titles and promotional assets.
The pitch received great praise for the concept and professional presentation, telling a story before uttering a word to investors. Bruce made a multi-award-winning impact as a web series, with season 2 in development.
